How do I start?

Open the app after setup; protection starts immediately.

How do I stop?

Control panel → Stop protection → owner PIN.

What is the duress PIN?

A second PIN that keeps recording and does not show live views or stop.

Why do I see a green or orange dot?

Apple requires it. We cannot hide it. The iPhone always shows the green or orange camera or microphone indicator while Instant Record is capturing.

Why did video stop in my pocket?

iOS stops the camera in the background. Use Dim cover and leave the app open for video. Audio may continue after you leave the app; video cannot.

Where are clips?

In the app Storage screen, not Photos.

How do off-device saves work?

Unlock Off-Device Protection ($9.99 once), then connect iCloud and/or Google Drive once. Finished clips upload automatically to your account. We do not host them. Share the iCloud folder in Files if others should see clips without installing the app. Trusted Circle is for contacts who install Instant Record and accept a CloudKit share.

I lost my phone. Will clips exist?

Only clips that already finished and uploaded (or were queued by iOS). A clip still being written is not in the cloud yet — the first clip is about 10 seconds, then about every minute — so the in-progress clip may be lost. Keep a network if you can. Without the $9.99 unlock, clips otherwise stay on the iPhone.

Reviewer / press

Instant Record does not conceal the camera or microphone. The iPhone’s green or orange indicator stays visible. Instant Record does not send 911 and is not a dispatcher. We do not host user videos.

Honest limits

  • Video cannot continue after you leave the app; audio can.
  • A clip still being written is not in the cloud yet (first clip ~10 seconds, then every minute).
  • We do not send 911.
  • Automatic cloud save is a one-time $9.99 unlock; clips otherwise stay on the iPhone.
