What it is

An evidence locker, not a panic-dispatch center

Instant Record is a personal safety app for iPhone. It is an emergency video recorder and GPS-stamped evidence locker you carry. It does not send 911, and we do not dispatch help.

Protection starts when you open it

After setup, opening Instant Record starts recording. You do not hunt for a record button in a tense moment.

Clips stay with you

Finished clips live in the app’s storage on your iPhone, not in Photos. We do not run a media backend and we do not keep a copy.

Optional off-device copies

Unlock Off-Device Protection once to auto-copy finished clips into iCloud Drive or Google Drive accounts you connect.

How it works

Open the app. Recording begins.

A calm sequence for walks, transit, and rideshare — the same emergency video recorder whether you are heading home or heading to a showing.

  1. Open Instant Record

    After you finish setup, protection starts immediately. The iPhone shows its green or orange camera or microphone indicator while capture is on.

  2. Record from the cameras you have

    Instant Record records video and audio. When the iPhone supports it, you can use the front and back cameras together.

  3. Owner PIN for live views and stop

    The control panel is PIN-protected. Live views and Stop protection require your owner PIN.

  4. Optional duress PIN

    A second PIN keeps recording. It does not show live views or stop. Use it if someone demands that you “turn it off.”

Evidence

A GPS-stamped evidence locker on your iPhone

Clips are written as a first short file, then minute files — hashed, time-stamped, and kept in the app.

~10 seconds, then every minute

The first clip is about 10 seconds so something usable exists quickly. After that, Instant Record writes about every 60 seconds.

SHA-256 hash and timestamps

Each finished clip can carry a SHA-256 hash and a timestamp so you can show later that the file you kept is the file the app wrote.

Optional GPS and a burned-in stamp

If you allow location, clips can include coordinates and a burned-in stamp. Deny location and video plus time stamps still work.

Stored in the app, not Photos

Open Storage in Instant Record to review clips. They are not saved to the Photos library.

Automatic cloud save is a one-time $9.99 unlock. Without it, clips stay on the iPhone. We still do not host the files — they go to accounts you already own.

Connect a destination once. Finished clips auto-copy to your cloud. Disconnect whenever you want. Google Drive uses the drive.file scope — only files Instant Record creates.

Live CURRENT_LOCATION.json

While Off-Device Protection is on and location is allowed, Instant Record can write a current-location file to the clouds you connected.

Trusted Circle

Invite trusted contacts for safety clips through CloudKit sharing. People who accept and install Instant Record can see what you choose to share. Share the iCloud folder in Files if someone should see clips without installing the app.

We do not host the files

There is no Smorgi video locker in the cloud. If you delete Instant Record, local clips go with it. Cloud copies live in your Apple or Google account until you delete them there.

Honest limits

What Instant Record cannot do

  • iPhone always shows the green or orange camera or microphone indicator. Instant Record does not hide it.
  • Video cannot continue after you leave the app. Audio can. Use Dim cover and leave the app open if you still need video.
  • A clip still being written is not in the cloud yet. The first clip is about 10 seconds; then about every minute. The in-progress clip may be lost if the phone is taken.
  • We do not send 911. Instant Record is not a substitute for calling emergency services or hiring professional security.
  • Automatic cloud save is a one-time $9.99 unlock. Without Off-Device Protection, clips stay on the iPhone.
